Securitas' “Security Manager Program”
Schenker Group is one of the world’s leading providers of integrated logistics services. Through transport services by land, air and sea, Schenker offers complex logistics solutions and global delivery chain management.
Schenker Sp z o.o in Poland is one of the largest logistics companies in Europe. It employs over 1,500 people and has 17 IT-integrated logistics terminals and customs warehouses. It has over 300 local and over 40 international regular, daily truck routes. Everyday Schenker's network has tens thousands of local and international dispatches. The company also offers warehouse logistics.
In 2000 Securitas and Schenker decided to enter into a partnership agreement. Schenker was then implementing quality management systems that included managing security at terminals and securing customer property.
“We wanted to cooperate with a reliable and professional partner who understood what our business was about and was able to introduce unified security systems for all segments,” says Tadeusz Leszczyński, Production and Ecology Security Manager at Schenker. “Securitas was all about that. They offered not only permanent physical protection, installation of equipment, a CCTV system, access control, alert and fire protection systems, but also all of the necessary maintenance and repairs.”
In 2000-2005 Securitas offered physical protection services. As part of a package contract, Securitas implemented a CCTV security system, burglary and assault alert system and access control. It helped Schenker to exclude protection zones within terminal areas, restrict access to warehouse areas and monitor all movements with a CCTV system. The CCTV system made it possible to locate lost packages and the individuals responsible for the loss. Subsequently, Schenker decided to entrust the safety of its customer’s consignments to an external supplier.
“We had to be sure that all of our customers’ consignments were safe and delivered on time,” recalls Tadeusz Leszczyński. “We were looking for a partner who would be able to secure all of the logistics processes relating to consignments. Securitas was the only company able to take on this responsibility and offer a task-based system. We agreed on objectives for which additional fees would be paid if met or exceeded. If Securitas failed to meet the objectives, a penalty would be charged.
Taking over system security required setting up a team of Security Managers to compile and analyze all of the information regarding consignment security. In addition to permanent physical protection and CCTV monitoring, Securitas is responsible for working with the claims department, conducting driver training and working actively to maintain good relations with Schenker’s customers. Securitas also supports Schenker by working in cooperation with the police department. In fact, the excellent actions of Securitas have led to the imprisonment of perpetrators of theft.
“The decision to outsource security services was the best we could have made. Since we are the leader in the logistics sector, we decided to entrust the safety of our consignments to the leader in security. Cooperation with Securitas is not only cost effective as we receive fewer complaints, but it has also made us a more reliable partner for our customers. At the end of 2007, despite increased logistics flows, we had fewer lost packages than in 2005. We see this as a great success that is primarily due to the Securitas Security Manager program implemented within our company,” adds Tadeusz Leszczyński at Schenker.
