Securitas and partner protect restaurant

The restaurant Källaren Aurora, is located in an historic property at Munkbron, in the heart of the Old Town in Stockholm, Sweden. Restaurant operations in the historic building started in January 2008, after the premises had remained empty for four years. The old cellar vaults, which house the restaurant, as well as a collection of antiques and vintage wines, required a well-planned and specialised security solution.

The restaurant is housed in a beautiful locale on two floors. On the upper floor, guests can sip on an aperitif or coffee with brandy in the library or bar and can then enjoy their dinner among the beautiful 17th century vaults in the cellar. The property was built in 1647 and the dining room seats approximately 130 people. The kitchen offers guests traditional Swedish food, prepared in a modern way, and slowly but surely the restaurant is getting more and more regular guests who are returning day after day for lunches and dinners.

”When we were going to start our operation, it was important for us to have protection against burglaries, but also to have an effective fire and evacuation alarm since our dining room is located in the cellar,” says Matilda Milton, restaurateur at Källaren Aurora.

Therefore, in order to secure her operation and her customers she contacted LH Electronic Alarm AB in Skarpnäck when it was time to start the restaurant. LH Electronic Alarm is a cooperative partner to Securitas Alarm Center, which offers a broad range of security services to both companies and private individuals. After inspecting and assessing the premises they recommended a traditional burglar alarm system with around 40 alarm points, as well as an evacuation alarm.

”The evacuation alarm starts automatically in the event of fire but can also be activated manually with alarm buttons that are placed within the premises. This was a requirement from the authorities in order to be allowed to open for business,” says Bengt Dahlström, salesman at LH Electronic Alarm.

”We actually prepare food over an open fire and we want our guests to feel safe,” says Matilda. The manual evacuation alarm allows us to quickly sound an alarm and evacuate our guests if something should happen.”

In connection with the installation, LH Electronic Alarm recommended that the alarm be connected to Securitas Alarm Center. In the contract with Securitas, emergency call-out of Securitas guards is also included if needed.

”Our cooperation with Securitas functions extremely well,” says Bengt. That is why we can wholeheartedly recommend our customers to connect their alarms to Securitas.

The action instructions that Securitas alarm operators follow in the event of an alarm are formulated by the customer together with Securitas. In these instructions, the actions that are to be taken are defined based on the type of alarm and the time of day. In addition, the alarm operators are instructed which on-call property representative should be contacted in the event of possible damages to the property if the restaurant’s contact person is unable to be reached. In this way, damages can be limited by quickly getting knowledgeable personnel to the site.

Adjacent to the restaurant there are also office premises that are protected by a burglar alarm connected to Securitas. There are many different antiques and expensive wines in both the office and the restaurant.

“Even if all our antiques are not especially valuable from a financial viewpoint, they hold great value for us. Therefore, we want to ensure that our antiques – and our wine cellar – are protected against burglary,” says Matilda.
