A safe boat ride into the sun and summer

Summer in Stockholm, Sweden. Sing-a-longs at Skansen open air museum, the pentathlon at Gröna Lund amusement park, picnics in splendid gardens of the Rosendal Castle. And the extra heavy burden on the Waxholm ferries that cross between Slussen and Djurgården with traffic that almost seems like it never sleeps. The ferry traffic is operated and staffed by Blidösundbolaget, who acquired the business through a competitive bid.

Each year, the Stockholm Archipelago receives an unbelievable 1.8 million visitors. Add to that an additional 200,000 passengers, and you get an idea of the annual number of passengers on the Djurgården ferries. During the summer months, in general, and at concerts and sing-a-long sessions at Skansen in particular, the number of people taking the ferry can reach up to 30,000 – each day!

Securitas is responsible for security and safety by providing on-site security personnel, who in addition to their regular work tasks, also take the pressure off the ferry crews by checking tickets, as well as loading and unloading passengers at the dock.

Flexibility is one of Securitas' mottos, which was also apparent when Blidösundbolaget had to quickly call in Securitas when the annual National Day fell on a sunny, warm Friday. The extra holiday was attached to the weekend and generated an even larger stream of people than what was planned for.

"We had more traffic on the vessel than what we estimated, but Securitas quickly solved the problem by adding additional security personnel, so that we could handle the day without a problem," says Göran Malmsten, Vice President of Blidösundbolaget .

Securitas has provided security on the Djurgården ferries since 2000. Blidösundbolaget has been running the business since 2007 and reviewed a number of security companies when they took over.

"We also chose Securitas, since they are a flexible supplier with competent personnel who also knew what needed to be done, even before we knew ourselves," says Göran.

When the sun shines out over Djurgården, the ferries are filled with happy summer revelers on each end of the ferry terminals. Sometimes, people celebrate a little too much or miss the ferry at the last second, and having security personnel on-site with a direct connection to the alarm center that can quickly mobilize resources provides a sense of security.
