Schloss Fuschl Resort in Austria
Legendary hotels like Schloss Fuschl are rare in this world. Located close to Mozart’s home city on Fuschl Lake, the historic building stands out as a result of its fairytale location. Protecting the resort is a particular challenge for the Securitas security staff.
“Hotel Schloss Fuschl is the grand old lady of European hotels,” explains hotel director Wolfgang M. Greiner. In fact the hotel is endowed with unique characteristics: the tower in what is now the hotel was built in 1461 for the archbishop of Salzburg. In addition to thousands of guests each year, the building now houses an amazing collection of 170 paintings from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
Wolfgang M. Greiner:
“When the renovation work was coming to an end in spring 2006 we had to choose a professional security system. The international hotel standards recommend security staff in the building and the relevant fire and burglary alarm systems. As our hotel receives personalities from public life, politics and business as well as members of titled families, the security service was a very important issue.”
“We had high expectations for a security service. We wanted a supplier who could guarantee 24-hour service and also the option of adding to the fixed staff at any time. Foreign language skills and the ability to work as a team were essential for us.”
“The highest service level and the quality of the staff were key elements in selecting to work with Securitas,” explains Greiner. “Securitas was able to provide the best qualified security staff by far. The price was not the key point but the profile of the people to whom we entrust the security of our building was.”
Professional security – an art form
The complete technology from the locking systems to the cameras is controlled from the alarm center inside the hotel. During the day Securitas monitors the recordings in and around the hotel complex on screens. Movable cameras mean we can target interesting events. Some of the cameras have movement sensors and these create alarms if something irregular occurs. Other monitors show a floor plan of the hotel complex and the relevant locations of the alarm contacts.
In addition to monitoring alarms, security staff patrol the site several times a day and document these tours via a card reader system. During patrols, the staff notes irregularities, ensure that emergency exits are clear, and check that certain access points are locked or open. At night, patrols are made at regular intervals.
The Securitas staff also take on additional tasks that are usually handled by the hotel’s own staff. “No matter what the problem that a guest approaches us with, we always make an effort to find a solution,” explains Klaus Slamanig from Securitas.
General director, Wolfgang M. Greiner, is also satisfied: “Schloss Fuschl is unique in the hotel industry with its own 24-hour security service. These days, many hotels still use their reception service as the hotel’s own security department. We prefer our reception staff to concentrate fully on our customers rather than having to handle internal alarm messages. I am sure that many hotels will follow our example in the future.”
